What inspired you to become a CrossFit coach?

The passion behind the methodology

What has been your best coaching experience so far?

Every time a client thanks me for changing their life

Tell us about the community at CrossFit Awaken

A God filled inspirational box that glorifies the Lord in everything we do. We focus on being a positive influence and uplifting to our clients and leading them by example.

What’s the most common mistakes you see among new athletes at your affiliate?

Patience, body awareness, coordination, and poor nutrition I believe in proper nutrition and being well rested. Our bodies are machines and will handle anything you give it and will adapt to the training as long as you give your body what it needs to run its best.

If you could give someone new to CrossFit just one piece of advice, what would it be?

Find balance in life, workouts, etc… too much of anything can be poison. Have fun and enjoy the ride.

Would you share with us your favorite tip or cue that we might find useful to use in our training?

Mobility is key, it is not the workouts or movements that cause injury it is are lack of mobility and flexibility to have proper technique in those movements that cause injury.

Do you have any success stories among your athletes you’d like to share?

The definition of success is “The achievement of something desired, planned, or attempted.” Each one of us is a success story. If you are a dedicated CrossFitter that shows up on a daily basis and works through these brutal WODs, that in itself is a success story.

If ‘Chris Brown’ was a WOD, what would it be?

“Sampson Strength” - All weight and ALL HEAVY

What's your biggest goat and what are you doing about it?

Gymnastics. At a body weight of 215 it takes a lot of extra work to carry that load. Working on it every day to get stronger and stronger.

Who is your CrossFit alter ego?

Kenny Levrich because he is my friend, plus he is so calm and collected before a WOD and in his training. He never gets nervous or stressed. He also is a lover of Christ just like myself. Keep an eye out for Kenny this year at the 2013 Games, this kid is on fire.

Thanks for sharing Chris! Best of luck with the growing community at CrossFit Awaken!
